She informed him she spent "a year and a half of not knowing what was going on," ahead of being recognized with Stage 5 endometriosis. And after having surgical operation, her doctor instructed her “you won't be able to have your own children” to which she mentioned, “My entire existence I do feel like I used to be called to be a mother."

Fortunately, Lexi's endometriosis is not a deal breaker for Joey. He assured her that there are "alternative ways" to have kids and start a family and that he loves her. Also, her condition isn't going to dissuade him from pursuing her.
